NEC LCD Technologies' New 19-Inch Monochrome LCD Module for Medical Use
19-Inch SXGA TFT LCD for Medical Use
Tokyo, September 29, 2005 --- NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. today announced that in mid-October it will begin shipping samples of its new 19-inch (48-centimeters-diagonal) monochrome super-extended graphics array (SXGA), amorphous silicon, thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) module, part number NL128102BM29-05A, which is suitable for use in the medical field. This module features NEC LCD Technologies' proprietary super-advanced, super-fine TFT (SA-SFT) technology, which boasts an ultra-wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, high luminance of 1000cd/m2 and a high contrast ratio of 900:1.
The three key features that distinguish this model are as follows:
(1) High Luminance
NEC LCD Technologies' own unique super-advanced, super-fine TFT (SA-SFT) technology combined with an optimized back-light system and filters achieve a brightness of 1000cd/m2 and a high contrast ratio of 900:1. Enabling a dynamic range of luminance, this module is ideal for displaying medical images on a variety of radiation system modalities.
(2) High Grade Grey-Scale Performance
Each pixel consists of three sub-pixels, and each sub-pixel controls 256 grey-scales individually, resulting in the display of 766 grey-scales simultaneously by each pixel. Realizing accurate and smooth grey-scale performance, this model is suitable for image diagnosis.
(3) Ultra-wide viewing angle
SA-SFT technology, which is based on an in-plane switching (IPS) mode, fulfills the vital prerequisites of medical image diagnosis on LCD monitors by enabling an ultra-wide viewing angle of 170 degrees (contrast ratio greater than 10:1) and reducing the contrast shift that can result from a change in viewing angle. The display is capable of operating in either portrait or landscape modes thus affording greater flexibility in viewing positions, installation locations and display usage.
Recently, the market has seen the introduction of a more advanced range of radiation system modalities such as CT, MRI and PET arising from the need for more accurate diagnosis and early detection of lesions etc. In many cases, the monitor devices employed for these tests hang side-by-side from the ceiling with little installation space. LCDs are considered to be the optimal choice for such medical applications due to their light weight and compact size. Consequently, medical equipment manufacturers look for LCD monitor devices boasting sufficient picture quality to enable use as monitor devices in such modalities. NEC LCD Technologies has specifically developed this new 19-inch LCD to respond to the need for large-sized, high-picture quality monitors for a variety of radiation system modalities in the medical field.
NEC LCD Technologies' LCDs are currently enjoying high acclaim in the medical field having been adopted widely by many medical equipment manufacturers worldwide. "The addition of this 1 megapixel, 19-inch module completes our monochrome range, enabling us to offer our customers in the medical industry a total solution owing to a broader range of models from 1 to 5 mega pixels. We will continue to expand our line-up of LCDs even further to meet the greater and more sophisticated needs of our customers in a variety of markets across the globe." wsaid Hidetoshi Usui, department manager in charge of product planning and marketing, NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd.
